Aung Suu Kyi’s Jail Term Extended To 26 Years
Aung was earlier sentenced to three years in jail for her bribe and corruption case while each of the charges which were two in number was for two corruption cases. Aung was accused of taking bribes from a businessman and it is also been said that the terms would be served concurrently. As of now, Aung is 77 years old and he was detained on the 1st of February 2021. She was seized of all the powers and controls that she had and she was detained for the allegations that she had against her in this case of corruption. It was also reported that she was accused of having 5, 50,000 dollars from a tycoon who was conceited in a drug trafficking case and was convicted years ago.
Why Was Aung Suu Kyi In Jail?
Aung has already spent 23 years of her life in jail and in the coming years, it would be a total of 29 years in jail. Apart from the conviction and the accusations of taking a bribe. Aung was also conceited for having illegally imported and possessing of walkie-talkies, violating the restrictions of the covid, and breaching the country’s important and official secrets to other countries. She was also accused of sedition, election fraud, and five even more charges related to corruption. Although there are many allegations against her, the legal team of Aung and herself as well never really admitted her crimes and the opposition was with the proof which was later shown in the court.

The elections which will be held again in 2023 will not keep Aung in it while it is also been said that she will be restricted from all official works as well. While the processing of the court is not out and made official yet, her lawyers and the team have banned the media from talking to Aung. Aung is currently, in solitary confinement in the capital, Naypyidaw and she will be there until her punishment ends it is been said that she is in fine condition as of now, and the team does into allowing her to talk to the journalists.
