He was born on the 14th of June 1944 and he worked in Telugu cinema as an assistant director and later switched his profession to the producer. He was brought up in Vijayawada, Krishna District, Madras Province, British India. Just three years before the Independence there were several opportunities rising in the subcontinent and he picked the movie industry. His family wanted him to be a doctor and he was pursuing his higher degree MBBS in the Kakatiya Medical College Warangal but Katragadda dropped out in the last year.

To enter the Madras film industry and started his career as an assistant director he also published a book of Telugu Chalanachitra Nirmatala Charitra. It was a book about the history of Motion Pictures producers in India. Even though he was a simple man he had a fair share of controversies because he was very open and vocal about the respect and dignity of South Indian film actors and makers. He produced his last movie in 1990 in the form of Nari Nari Naduma Murari. He is also credited with the production of Seetharama Kalyanam.

Everybody really loved him and his point of opinion and he received many awards and was a guest of Honour in multiple award shows. He was also really angry at the organisers of an event that was held in 2013 where the President of India was the chief guest and they were giving medals and Honours to the South Indian personnel.
