He was also a close friend to many celebrities, including his former clients, Kiss, Iron Maiden, and more. Harte died on Thursday at the age of 70 due to complications from diabetes. Harte had been working as a security consultant for more than 45 years. He saw it all, from being punched by Axl Rose to being attacked by gang members with knives. Born in Pontiac, Michigan to Irish immigrants, John Harte served honorably for four years in Vietnam before returning home and serving as a bodyguard for some of the most famous bands in history. He’s been called “Big” John Harte since he was a teenager by his peers because of his large stature and intimidating demeanor.
