Back in 1991 when Johnny was going through a morning walk he was hit by a car and he went through an acquired brain injury that lasted for a very long time. His most memorable fight was from London Albert Hall which was held in 1969 against Cuban Jose Legra. Johnny was a recorder with 56 wins and he was a boxer for more than 20 years in this field. He had 56 wins with 20 by knockouts, six draws, and five losses. Johnny also defeated Masahiko Harada who was better known as fighting Harada and was from Japan. After having a rematch between the two, Johnny knocked out Harada in the 14th round of the world title which was held in Tokyo.

John added that Johnny was humble, and skillful and showed the essence of heroes and described Johnny as a master craftsman. Johnny wrote his autobiography along with his long-time friend who was known as frank, Will. His autobiography for Johnny is called Fammo. After the accident in 1991, Johnny acquired serious brain injuries and he also sustained a stroke as well, Again in 1993 he was diagnosed with complex brain injuries and went through therapies in rehab. These therapies helped Johnny get to his normal life after he went through 10-12 weeks of therapies. Recently he was spotted in the Queens’ Birthday honors for significant services to boxing at the elite level. He was also appointed as a member of the order of Australia. He is the third boxer whose statue is made of bronze after Les Darcy and Lionel Rose.
